Issue #38: Grump
Has a picture ever summed up your entire week?
This one of Grumpy Cat that one of my students drew for me is definitely that picture.
Thank god it’s Friday!
Speaking of which, is anyone doing anything fun this weekend? Let us know!
I will be trying to break my world record for amount of time spent on the couch in one single day. Wish me luck!
But, anyway, enough about me.
Let’s get to it!
Some awesome things you should do this week.
My current obsession with how to be a mysterious woman.
My favorite articles of the week.
A picture that reminds us to enjoy our little victories.
One final thought about phone-shaming.
Watch 🎥 Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
This was one of those movie night picks that served strictly as an “I’m sorry I’ve made you watch so many terrible movies lately“ to Ian. I even told myself I didn’t have to limit my Diet Coke intake because I wouldn’t mind running to the bathroom and missing any of this movie. Then, it started, and everything changed. I am not exaggerating when I say that this was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. I did have to go to the bathroom in the middle of it and was so fucking mad that I was going to miss even a minute! Hugh Grant literally needs to win an Oscar for his performance! Seriously, you need to see it this week! Even if you don’t like or know anything about DnD. It doesn’t matter! This is a must-see! (was that enough exclamation points to get my message across?)
Read 💻 The Sacred Ritual Of Getting Ready To Go Out
For French photographer Vincent Ferrané, the act of getting ready became the focus of his new series, Every-day.
This series brings together trans people – trans women and trans men – but while some may be attached to this definition, others, on the contrary, will consider themselves simply male or female, and then there are non-binary people for whom any definition of gender is either too narrow or totally irrelevant.
Come for the beautiful images, and stay for the incredible stories.
Make 🛠️ A Homemade Pond
I have a serious obsession with frogs and toads. I don’t know why. But this obsession has always made me want a little pond in my yard. I saw this video the other day and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. I legitimately want to make this more than anything else in the entire world. Although, that would mean I might have to actually get off the couch…
Buy 💸 A new phone case for Spring
For some reason, Spring always means buying a new phone case. Maybe that’s my new boring adult version of getting a new swimsuit each Summer or new school supplies each Fall. But at less than $12, there’s no reason to feel guilty about buying this beautiful and cheery phone case!
Read 💻 How the Meat Industry Indoctrinates Children
This story of a California girl and her goat named Cedar, which captured national and international headlines, almost reads like a Hollywood screenwriter could have penned it. But unfortunately, this story doesn’t have a happy ending. It does, however, serve a purpose to remind us that our natural born instincts tell us not to send our animal friends straight to the slaughterhouse.
This post from The New Yorker suspiciously seems to be written about my life. Should they have reached out for permission or something?
Best. advice. EVER.
Yes, yes, and YES!
💨 How many people take 4/21 off of work?
😓 “As a child of immigrants, I feel guilty for resting.”
🧹 Here’s why women shouldn’t do any more housework this year.
🌱 It is possible to create a green patio habitat!
🥾 I might be able to get on board with “soft hiking.”
🚨 What is a stand-your-ground law and which states have one?
One final thought:
Until next time,
